I have a confession to make…
I love avocados. On toast, tacos, eggs, even just plain…I have a love affair with avocados. But I recently came across evidence that suggests my love affair with avocados is rightfully so and here’s why:
- Avocados are high in antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin which are buzz words in eye health because they are important for lowering the risk of macular degeneration.
- Lutein and zeaxanthin act as natural sunblock by absorbing excess light energy which is thought to help filter harmful blue light.
- Its suggested that eating an avocado a day can lead to better brain function. Participants in a recent study demonstrated better memory, attention and processing speed.
So eating a balanced diet that includes fresh avocado can be an effective strategy to better brain function and eye health. That is great news! Can I get a holy guacamole?!
