Apples, Bioflavonoids and Eye Health.

Im a big proponent of how the foods we eat can help or hurt us. Its no surprise that a key to prevention to to eat a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables. Eye health and nutrition is no exception and go and eye hand-in-hand.

Case in point: apples and eye health.

Apples have natural pigments called bioflavonoids, which help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, some cancers, cataracts and macular degeneration. Flavonoids have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Apples contain quercetin which is easily the most consumed flavonoid for adults and kids. Interestingly, red wine just happens to also be a good source of many flavonoids.

So the old adage of, “An apple a day keeps the Doctor away” continues to ring true, especially for eye health!
